Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary tour.

Primate Watch Safaris supports and values lives of wildlife and therefore encourages tourists out there to visit Ngamba Island chimpanzee sanctuary. Remember a single trip will support and save a life of a chimpanzee.

Located 23kms offshore from Entebbe in Lake Victoria is a forested 100 acres Island that was identified by CSWCT management as a safe haven for confiscated orphaned chimpanzees saved from the verge of death. Favored by her various types of vegetation enjoyed by Chimpanzees, Ngamba Island has since become a home to 33 chimpanzees able to roam about and forage for food.

Day Tour

Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary tour

The trip starts when you transfer to Entebbe pier where you get a briefing about the excursion. You then get into a either a speed boat or a traditional boat to the Island. On reaching the Ngamba Island, you will be showed / directed to the interpretation centre where a guide takes you through the orientation talk before you tour the area

Given how small an area this Island is, it cannot fully provide enough food to sustain the chimps for the day to day living hence a call for supplementary meals. Feeding times are 11AM and 3PM every day at which times tourists are guided to raised platforms for close range viewing and excellent photographic moments.
